So I am no long part of an california HMO plan, so now I have to get insurance on my own. Problem is that I am making about $800 / month (part time work) while going to school full time. Both my parents are on government low-income plans, so I cant put them as primary policy holders while I get student rates. One question I have about deductibles is when to pay it? For example, a plan that has $1,500 deductible / $0 doctor visits, do I have to pay the full value of that office visit to the doctor? Or will I have to pay $1,500 straight out to the insurance company and then funds will be used accordingly? What about $1500 deductible / $30 co-pay doctor visits? If I pay $30 to the doctor, will this credit towards the deductible? Or will this plan only hit me with the deductible for $1500 when I go to the hospital? Or will the insurance company want it upfront? Final question is: for a 21 year old student that is about 5'7, 230 lbs, non smoker, rarely drinks, what do you think would be the correct rate? No fault accident with no insurance?

I am in California, was in an accident with no insurance. The police report states it cannot find who was at fault and the lady's insurance company said the same thing when I spoke with them to see if they would pay for my damages. They never asked me to pay for her damages but now I am getting letters from a 3rd party Claims Office asking me to pay $6000. Can they do this if I am not at fault? And shouldn't they have notified me before getting a 3rd party involved?

Does auto insurance cover a person to drive someone elses car? ?

My boyfriend says he is covered to drive my car because he has insurance on his car & vise versa - that I can drive his car because my car has insurance. This makes no sense to me. Its like saying I am covered to drive my next door neighbors high end luxury sport SUV because I have insurance on my POS used sedan. I even asked him - So I would be covered to drive any car, of any american in the whole country because I have car insurance? He said, yes! Can someone please explain to him how this makes no sense? Or tell me that I'm wrong and why?

Why is it cheaper to insure a car witha provisional licence, than a full licence?

I was doing a price comparison check for insurance on my car after I've passed my test and it was around 1,400. I'd been entering that I had a full licence as I was looking for after I'd passed, I then changed it to say I only had my provisional to see how much it would cost to insure now so I can practice with someone sat in and it's only about 750. I'm having trouble trying to get under my dads insurance policy. I've just gotten my license and found a car I was going to buy so I called my Dad's insurance company to try to get under his policy. However they said I cannot go under his policy because she knows that I will be the primary driver as well as the fact that my dad is already the primary driver for two other cars. Without my dad my insurance rate is around $4500/yr. My dad does not speak english very well so I have to do the calling and talking. I'm 19 years old, and I am very interested into buying a 2006 Dodge Charger R/T. 5.7L V8. I'm a responsible driver with a flawless driving history and have taken (and passed) a driver's education course. The thing I'm concerned about though is the insurance for the vehicle. What makes a car (in itself) have high insurance? Is it based on the performance and power alone, or do other factors come into play such as the size and number of doors? Would a V8 Charger in particular have ridiculously high insurance compared to a more sporty car such as a V8 Mustang of the same year? Well, you probably understand what I'm trying to ask.
